Special students are those enrolled only in isolated subjects with no link to any Postgraduate Program at USP. Art. 54 and 55 of the Postgraduate Regulations of USP

The Coordination of Social Assistance (COSEAS) of the University of São Paulo provides graduate students with a quota of passes per month related to public transport.

To request (in a specific form) the registration, the student must attend the School Pass Section with the enrollment declaration of the year.

Medical care

Coorientation:

The co-supervisor can be approved for the student regularly enrolled in the PhD course.

The co-supervisor must have at least the title of doctor and must contribute with specific topics, complementing the orientation of the dissertation or thesis of a graduate student.

The accreditation of the co-supervisor will be specific to a student, and does not imply full accreditation with the Graduate Program and / or concentration area.

The co-supervisor's accreditation must be forwarded to the CCP by the advisor, with the student's consent, at the most up to sixty percent of the Master's or Doctorate's regulatory deadline established in the Program's rules.

Minimum, Special and Surplus Credits

Minimum Credits:

Master's course : at least 96 credit units are required, comprising 16 credits in subjects and 80 for preparing the dissertation.

Direct doctoral course: at least 200 credit units are required, comprising 24 credits in subjects and 176 for preparing the thesis.

Doctoral course with prior master's degree: at least 184 credit units are required, comprising 8 credits in disciplines and 176 for the preparation of the thesis.

Note: The credit unit corresponds to fifteen hours of scheduled activities.

Special Credits:

Up to twenty-five percent of that total, one or more of the activities carried out in the period during which the student is regularly enrolled in the Graduate Program, as provided in item XV, may be counted in the total amount of credits required in disciplines, as provided in item XV. of the Specific Norms of the graduate program in dermatology.

Participation in scientific congress with presentation of work, whose abstract is published in annals (or similar) (0.1 credit per work), or publication of complete work in annals (or similar) (0.25 credits / work), of which the interested party is an author and the theme is relevant to his dissertation or thesis project;

Complete work published in a national circulation magazine (0.5 credits / paper) or international (1.0 credit / paper) that has a recognized editorial board, an adequate referential system and has a proven relationship with the student's dissertation or thesis project;

Participation in the Teaching Improvement Program (PAE) (maximum twenty percent of the minimum credits required in subjects).

Excess Credits:

Excess Master's credits can be used in the Doctorate, as long as the discipline or activity has started after obtaining the minimum credits required in the Master and passing the qualification exam.

Shutdown

The student enrolled in the Master's or Doctorate may be dismissed from the course in the following cases:

1) If you fail twice in the same subject or fail in three different subjects;

2) If you do not register regularly for two consecutive academic periods within the term provided for in the school calendar set by CoPGr;

3) If you fail the second time in the qualification exam;

4) If you do not comply with the activities or requirements within the statutory terms;

5) At the request of the interested party.

Specific Rules of this Program:

The student will be dismissed from the postgraduate course due to unsatisfactory academic and / or scientific performance, subject to approval by the CCP and a written and detailed opinion from the advisor. For additional information click here

Request for Diplomas

The interested party must go to the Post-Graduation Service of FMUSP, on working days, from 9 am to 3:30 pm, within a maximum period of 15 days counting from his defense, in order to enter the diploma issuance request, hand over the diploma card. identification (USP badge) and withdraw the conclusion statement.

Dissertation / Thesis

Specific Rules of this Program:

When depositing the dissertation / thesis at CPG, the student must submit to the CCP the following documents: copy of the article related to the dissertation or thesis submitted for publication in a journal indexed in PubMed, or higher; copy of proof of work submission.

6 (six) copies and electronic version of the master's dissertation or 10 (ten) copies and electronic version of the doctoral thesis must be deposited with the Postgraduate Service, which will be filed with the date of delivery and a stamp with the mention " Defense copy ", with a letter signed by the supervisor attesting that the work is fit for defense. Ph.D. sandwich

Doctorate-Sandwich for doctors and non-doctors:

PhD students can develop part of their thesis work in foreign institutions through specific CAPES programs.

Students who are receiving a doctoral scholarship provided by FAPESP must request interruption of the scholarship for a period of up to 12 months, to participate in a sandwich doctoral program abroad, with scholarship from another agency or other type of financing that does not burden FAPESP, upon request of authorization made by the advisor to Fapesp, including detailed justification. If the interruption is authorized, the time used for this activity will not be deducted from the total time of the grant awarded.

Qualification exam

The objective of the Qualification Exam is to assess the scientific maturity of the student and the progress achieved so far in his project, being required for the Master, Doctorate and Direct Doctorate.

1) Master's students must register for the Qualification Exam up to a maximum of 21 months, counted from the start date of the student's time counting and must pass the Qualification Exam no later than 2 months after the date of the enrollment, with the requirement to obtain at least 8 of the minimum credits required in Disciplines for the Master's course.

2) Doctoral and Direct Doctoral students must register for the Qualification Exam up to a maximum of 28 months, counted from the date the student's time starts counting and must pass the Qualification Exam no later than 2 months after the enrollment date, with the requirement to obtain at least 4 of the minimum credits required in Disciplines for the Doctorate course with a previous Master's degree and 12 for the Direct Doctorate course.

3) The examining committee, appointed by the supervisor and approved by the CCP, must consist of three members, with a minimum degree of doctor, and their training must be defined according to criteria previously approved by the CCP.

4) The supervisor and / or co-supervisor in the case of a doctoral course, cannot (by) be part of the Qualification Exam judging committee.

5) In the event of failure, the student may submit to a new qualification exam up to 180 days after the completion of the first.

6) The Qualification Exam will consist of: a) presentation by the student, in a 45-minute class, of the results that will appear in his Thesis or Dissertation; b) student's complaint by the board, based on the preliminary version of the Thesis or Dissertation presented by the student when registering for the qualification exam.

Change from Master to Direct Doctorate

Upon approval in the Master's Qualification Exam, and at the suggestion of the examining board, the student may request to change the course from Master to Direct Doctor with the consent of the supervisor and the CCP, within 30 days.

CCP will analyze the request based on a detailed opinion issued by a rapporteur on the new research project and the student's academic performance. (For additional information click here )

Advisor and Advisor Change

The candidate for the title of Master or Doctor must choose a supervisor, upon his previous acquiescence, from a list organized annually by the CCP.

Entry students can remain initially under the academic guidance of the Program Coordinator for a maximum period of one hundred and eighty days.

The student is allowed to change the advisor with the consent of the current advisor and the new advisor, with the approval of the CCP.

The advisor is free to give up student guidance, with the presentation of a detailed justification, which must be approved by the CCP and CPG. (For additional information click here ) Articles 80 to 83

Change of Dissertation / Thesis Title

The change in the title of the dissertation / thesis must be communicated to the CPG of FMUSP in a specific form when the copies are delivered for the defense, and must be accompanied by a declaration signed by the student, his supervisor and coordinator of this program that the modification of the title does not imply changing the content of the project, as initially approved by CAPPesq.

Deadlines

Thesis or Dissertation deposit:

1) In the master's course, the deadline for depositing the dissertation is thirty-six months.

2) In the doctorate course for the holder of the master's degree, the deadline for depositing the thesis is forty-eight months.

3) In the direct doctorate course, the deadline for submitting the thesis is forty-eight months.

Defense term after delivery of copies:

CPG has a maximum period of sixty days, from the deposit of the dissertation or thesis, to designate the judging committee.

The minimum term for defense will be 30 days after the approval of the Defense Judging Committee.

The maximum period for defending a dissertation or thesis is limited to ninety days, counted from the first approval of the judging commission by the CPG.

Qualification exam:

1) Doctoral students with a master's degree must register for the Qualification Exam up to a maximum of 28 months, counted from the start date of the student's time count and must pass the Qualification Exam up to a maximum of 4 months. months after the date of enrollment.

2) Direct doctoral students must register for the Qualification Exam up to a maximum of 28 months, counted from the start date of the student's time counting and must pass the Qualification Exam no later than 4 months after the date registration.

3) Master's students must register for the Qualification Exam up to a maximum of 21 months, counted from the start date of the student's time counting and must pass the Qualification Exam no later than 4 months after the date of the enrollment, with the requirement to obtain at least 8 of the minimum credits required in subjects for the master's course.

Deadline Extension

Exceptionally, the extension of the deadline for depositing the dissertation or thesis may be granted, for a period not exceeding one hundred and twenty days, to students enrolled in Programs that have a deadline for completing the courses lower than that established in art. 48 of USP's PG Rules.

To grant the extension, the following requirements must be met:

1) Request signed by the student and with a detailed opinion from the advisor, addressed to the CCP, accompanied by justification for the request, preliminary version of the dissertation or thesis and indicative schedule of the activities to be developed in the period;

Registration locking

The student enrolled in a Master's or Doctorate course may request, upon justification, the enrollment lock-up, for a period not exceeding 12 months, when he is temporarily unable to maintain his academic activities.

In order to grant the registration lock, the following requirements must be met:

  • Request signed by the student and with a detailed opinion from the advisor, addressed to the CCP, containing the reasons for the request, documentedly proven, the intended term and the start date;

  • The manifestation of the CCP must be forwarded to the CPG for deliberation;

  • In cases of registration cancellation due to illness of the student or his / her family members, CPG may forward the request for deliberation of the CoPGr CaN;

  • No enrollment lock-out will be granted during the term extension period for the conclusion of the dissertation or thesis, except in cases of illness, at the discretion of CoPGr's CaN;

  • The registration lock may be retroactive to the date of the occurrence of the reason for granting it, as long as requested and as long as the reason lasts, and as long as it does not cause overlap with any activity performed, except registration.
